What the Students and Parents Have to Say About Sensei Jeff Hunt

Karate has allowed me to balance myself spiritual, mentally and physical. While dealing with the stresses of everyday life, work, school and family it became easy for me to become unbalance, frustrated, confused and angry. As I participate with the martial classes, it has helped me develop a road map to finding tranquility, direction and an outlet source for my agitated energy. Karate has created a religion of motivational, spiritually and physical concept and behavior expectation within myself. Valeriana Wick

Jeff Hunt Karate has been an amazing asset to my family.  My youngest son Jared started the school when he was only 4 years old when they did not have a 4 yr old class.  Sensei Hunt welcomed him into the class and made him feel comfortable and not intimidated by the older children.  Jared progressed quickly and is now a brown belt at 9 years old.  My older son Kevin joined the school as well and he is also a brown belt at 14 years old.  This atmosphere is warm, caring and structured. Sensei Hunt instills principles of discipline, integrity and determination into the lives of children. I am also a student at the school and I lost 65 lbs in 8 months from proper eating and the structured training and exercise at the school.  Sensei Hunt has created a family environment that promotes and encourages success. His school is a great asset to our community.

My daughter started at the Jeff Hunt Traditional Shotokan Karate School at the age of 3. My daughter has become more focus as a result of the teaching of Sensei Hunt. She enjoys going to Karate. The school has shown her how a girl should be treated.Sierra Felder's Mom

Hello, my name is Nathaniel Shepherd-Tyson.   I have been training with Sensei Jeff Hunt since I was 5 years old.  I am currently a Junior Black Belt.  Sensei has been my only instructor.  He is a very knowledgeable and compassionate but at the same time, demands nothing but the best from you.  I enjoy participating in karate.  It’s fun and it’s a great workout.  I look forward to continue my training with Sensei and I can only hope to be as good of a man as he is.

I had the privilege of meeting Sensei Hunt from a staff training in 2008 provided by my employer. I work for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; a Public Health Advisor. The nature of my job requires me to make home visits in unsafe neighborhoods in Brooklyn, such as Bedford Stuvesant, East New York, Brownsville and Bushwick. Being an Asian female stepping into a predominantly Black and Hispanic neighborhood brings forth much uninvited attention. As a result, after Sensei Hunt professionally and tactfully demonstrated some self defense techniques with his assisting students; I approached him because I was interested in visiting his Karate school to learn more about self defense. Upon arriving his dojo, instantly there was the sense of camaraderie. I was shy and somewhat intimidated in being in an unfamiliar territory. However, Kohai Leon greeted my friend and I followed by Sensei's warm welcome into his dojo. From the very first day, I was pleased with the organized structure of the school and the training spirit of Sensei Hunt and his students. I have grown so much ironically, which is beyond my initial expectations training with Sensei Hunt since May of 2008. As we all experience the roller coasters in our lives at different intensity levels, training with Sensei helped me overcomes those self esteem destructing hurdles. I have never encountered an instructor with his level of dedication to his students growth in a multidimensional respect. He is blessed with interpersonal communication skills which helps him gage his style of approach. He really knows when to push you and when to give you space to work things out. His outreach to me outside of classes as well as constructive teaching style is the major contributor to my continued training. Karate training conditioned me to have a strong mind, strong will, and focus, the key to my ongoing fortification of new mind set and transformation. This pushed me in new directions and paths I never imagined to explore due to my fear.  The fear of, I am not good enough, smart enough so on and so forth for anything. Needless to say, I faced my fear in Fall 2010 when I went back to school to pursue my Nursing career. I was able to maintain an A average last semester as well as this semester because there is no longer I CAN'T in my dictionary.

My son Donovan has been in karate for 6 months now and I must say he truly loves it. Karate has given Donovan the determination to succeed in everything he does. He has improved in school, knows how to be focused, and has discipline which was my main concern; he use to be all over the place. Karate is the best thing that has happen for my son. I would like to give a big thanks to Sensei Jeff Hunt.
